Grow your global footprint in New New Zealand and Australia — choose the right colocation data center partner.

Expanding into Australia and New Zealand demands more than a footprint; it calls for an expertly planned data-center approach. As global companies look to penetrate these markets, a robust strategy for multi-region data center services becomes essential. With a focus on increasing presence, leveraging hyperscale data centers can provide the competitive edge needed. From AI-driven analytics and streaming petabytes of content to powering low-latency SaaS platforms, success hinges on infrastructure that’s resilient, compliant, and ready to scale with your growth targets across Australia and New Zealand.

Leveraging colocation data centers lets you enter these markets quickly and cost-effectively. Instead of building from scratch, you tap into purpose-built facilities that deliver the power density, network diversity, and round-the-clock operations team you need while keeping your hardware close to the customers, cloud zones and digital ecosystems that matter most.

Frequently asked questions

What certifications do Datacom's data centres have?

Each of our locations meets international structural and operational requirements. Our customers are assured of our best-in-class data centre solutions.

Our data centres undergo rigorous independent review to ensure they meet the highest global standards for power usage, security, operational and management processes. Our sites have achieved a number of certifications, so you can be assured our sites are run to world-class standards.

Our New Zealand sites achieve the following major standards and certifications:

  • The Uptime Institute Management and Operations Stamp of Approval.
  • PCI DSS
  • ISO27001 standard for security management
  • ISAE NZ 3000

Datacom's halls at Australian sites achieve the following major standards and certifications:

  • ISO27001
  • PCI DSS
  • SOC2 (Type 2)

What does each certification mean?

  • ISO27001: An international standard for how to manage information security.
  • ISAE3000: An international standard for risk management.
  • SOC2 (Type 2) provides assurance on the design of an organisation's controls at a specific point in time, focusing on security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy.
  • PCI-DSS: The payment card industry data security standard (PCI-DSS) is an information security standard for organisations that handle branded credit cards from the major card schemes.
  • Uptime Management and Operations stamp of approval: Assessment of staffing, organisation and training practices, preventive maintenance programme, operating conditions, and planning, management, and co-ordination practices and resources.
  • Toitū carbonreduce: this signifies that our commitment to sustainability. It involves measuring and reducing carbon emissions, implementing energy-efficient practices, and minimising waste. This certification demonstrates our dedication to environmental responsibility and independently verifies how we contribute to a more sustainable future.

What on-site services do you provide?

Our standard service provides all of the things you would expect from a data centre, including:

  • Inwards goods receipting and secure storage
  • Build rooms to set up and prepare for equipment installations
  • Customer offices with kitchens, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and first-aid room
  • Guest wi-fi
  • Dedicated customer parking
  • On-site technicians available 24/7

  • Arranging of secure asset disposal

How do sustainable data centres differ from traditional data centres?

Traditional data centres may rely heavily on non-renewable energy sources and have higher energy consumption. In contrast, sustainable data centres utilise renewable energy, energy-efficient cooling systems, and green building practices to reduce environmental impact.

Our New Zealand based sustainable data centres use 100% renewable energy. A sustainable, renewables powered data centre like ours in NZ minimises environmental impact without compromising reliability.

Are Datacom’s high-density data centres suitable for GPUaaS workloads?

Yes – our high-density facilities are purpose-built for compute-intensive workloads, including those running on GPU clusters. We support high-power racks (up to 150kW each) to host GPU-dense servers used in AI training, machine learning, and scientific computing. To manage the heat output of such equipment, we offer direct liquid cooling (DLC) and advanced airflow designs. This means your GPU data centre deployments can run at full throttle in our environment, with efficient cooling and power distribution ensuring optimal performance.

What security measures are in place at your data centres?

We take data centre security seriously. All our facilities have multi-layer physical security and monitoring. This includes 24/7 on-site security personnel, CCTV surveillance, and secure two-factor access to enter the data halls. We also implement strict visitor protocols and continuous infrastructure monitoring. In addition to physical safeguards, our operations adhere to international security standards (such as ISO 27001 and PCI-DSS compliance). These measures ensure your equipment and data are always protected by the highest levels of security.

What is Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), and how efficient are Datacom’s data centres?

Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a common metric for data centre energy efficiency, defined as the ratio of total facility power to the power used by IT equipment. The closer the PUE is to 1.0, the more efficient the data centre. Datacom’s high-density data centres are engineered for efficiency – using smart cooling designs, containment, and renewable energy sources to reduce overhead energy usage. Thanks to measures like direct liquid cooling and optimised power distribution, our sites achieve low PUE values (indicating minimal wasted energy). In short, our focus on efficiency and sustainability means you get more computing power per watt, lowering both costs and environmental impact.

Can you accommodate future growth with modular or hyperscale expansions?

Absolutely. Our data centres are designed to scale alongside your needs. We can support everything from a single rack to large, multi-megawatt deployments. Through a modular data centre approach, we build out capacity in phases – adding power and cooling infrastructure as you grow – without interruption to existing operations. In New Zealand, our Kapua site, for example, can expand to over 1,500 racks and 14MW, which is a significant data centre capacity for future growth. Additionally, our partnerships give customers access to hyperscale data centre environments if ultra-large scale is required. This means whether you need a small colocation today or a hyperscale footprint tomorrow, we have the flexibility to meet those demands.
